FOR THERE HE STANDS UPON THE STEPS TO THE IVORY THRONE. He is pale as Death and crimson as War. Let His name be writ, and His name be known. He is Ifanarien a'Callen, ruthless and bloody. He strangled the life from the nightmare that shrouded our people and our beauteous, bountiful realm—The fire of rebellion that turned many a village to ash and soot.
Four-hundred and fifty-two years we toiled, denied leadership by the Stranger. Four-hundred and fifty-two years we had no Imperator to sit upon the Ivory Throne. No longer does Ifanarien a'Callen stand. He sits upon the Ivory Throne, stoic and powerful. As the Lords and Ladies Superior of the realm place upon His brow the Ivory Crown, and as the Prince of Ravens and the Prince of Lances born anew arise at His sides, our people and our Dominion may once more breathe freely.
The bloodshed shall soon be over. The fires of war shall be quenched. This man favoured by both the will of the Stranger and the will of the Rider shall raise us from the squalor that we pitiful many have allowed ourselves to succumb to. He shall bring peace to the souls of the restless, and justice to the violent. He shall deliver us from the scourge that plagued our lands and make whole once more, with blood and bone, what has come to be broken.
D'Cilanannë Di'Tretallë(The Emperor of the Dominion)
So very different from the elves of the stories of the races of Man, the Bone Elves seem from afar to be a cold and imposing people. They worship their Nine gods, and the many multitudes of other gods that they have stolen from other peoples. They are a scourge upon the land and upon the sea to many who have seen their advance. They are as unstoppable to many peoples and kingdoms and empires as a tempest is to a candleflame. They are driven by their gods to the expansion of their empire—rightly called the Dominion—through the conquest of others.
Contents
Pale and Fearsome
They rise from the mist, heralds of and pale as Death itself. Their very visages inspire fear in even the strongest and the bravest of peoples that stand in their way. Unlike their high-elfin brethren, they are not afraid to get their hands dirty. Blood and viscera are simply truths of war, and they do not spend inordinate amounts of time cleansing themselves of gore. The crimson or azure colour of blood against their pale skin certainly adds to their vicious appearance.
A Singular Purpose
The Tretallë are the children of the Dominion. They believe themselves to be the chosen people of their god, the Stranger, the embodiment of wisdom and peaceful death. They believe that their gods entrusted them with the Divine Imperative to Conquest. To this end, they spread their influence to the very edges of the known world, flying banners of peace for those that would receive them, and beating drums of war against those that would resist them.
Benevolent Conquerors
And yet, as cruel and merciless as the Bone Elves might seem to the inexperienced eye of an outsider, ask any of the peoples that have been swallowed whole by the Dominion what it feels like living under Bone Elfin rule and you will find an answer that you might very well not expect. All the peoples of the Dominion are prosperous, bound by blood-oath to the Ivory Throne, but otherwise pleased with their lives that remain relatively undisturbed. If anything, being conquered by the Dominion be it through war or wile, seems to be a boon.
Through many millennia of being conquerors in every sense of the word, the Tretallë have learned that the best way to maintain an empire as expansive as theirs is to keep the people satisfied and happy. When disastrous harvest strikes one corner of the empire, the Dominion is quick to shuttle goods from realms with overflowing stores to those that need the food to survive the winter. Where entire kingdoms might once have needed to rely on only the goods of their own sometimes less-than-arable lands, under the rule of the Dominion, very few ever go hungry, and many physical needs are met as well as they possibly can be.
Singular Devotion
The Bone Elves fancy themselves the heralds and the stewards of Death itself. They live their lives in dedication to the Stranger and the Divine Imperative to Conquest. Their celebrations and their Dominion revolve around this singular deity to whom they seek to someday return in the peace and respite of death.
What devotion they show to the Stranger, they show as well to His avatar in the world: The Pale Imperator, the man who sits upon the Ivory Throne. Each and every one of the Tretallë are sworn to Him in Blood. The very vow of never raising arms against the Dominion and any of her peoples etched in their veins, burned into their flesh by the same blood magic that would kill them should they ever stray. The Ivory Throne and the Pale Imperator lie at the heart of the Dominion, and should they ever be lost, the Dominion shall crumble to dust around the hole in its chest.
Tretallë Traits
Your Bone Elf character has a variety of natural abilities, shaped by many thousands of years of culture and beliefs and conquest.
Ability Score Increase Your Constitution score increases by 1.
Age The Tretallë reach physical maturity at the age of 27, but are still considered children until the age of 81, which is when they are considered to have learned enough of the world and matured enough emotionally and intellectually in order to be truly productive members of society. Although few of the Tretallë live to be beyond 300 due to their long, continuous history of strife and conquest, they have been known to live up to 400 years of age.
Alignment The Tretallë possess no innate leaning toward either good or evil, but the discipline imposed upon them by the stringent rules of the military training that they receive from early on in life ensures that they tend to be Lawful or Neutral. Though it may seem that they would be the last people to do so, they value individuality and the freedom of choice. Though they view themselves to be the harbingers of death, they believe that only those who are ready and at peace should enter into the embrace of the Stranger. They believe that a fulfilling life is a necessary part of a fulfilling death.
Size The Tretallë are taller and more well-built than their Elledyn'ni cousins. They range from 5.5 to 7.5 feet tall. Your size is Medium.
Speed Your base movement speed is 30 feet.
Star-Steel Armoury The Tretallë pride themselves on their rejection of all things arcane. To this end, they have crafted a lucrative industry devoted to the creation of a special metal alloy, Elledtrillë. Nearly every Tretalleri individual possesses a trinket or even armour of some sort crafted of this alloy, highly valued both within and outside the Dominion for its magic-dampening properties.
While there may be an almost equally lucrative industry of counterfeit Elledtrillë functioning in the shadows in the nooks and crannies of the Dominion, only a certain number of metallurgists know how to craft the genuine article. Creating counterfeit Elledtrillë is, in fact, a crime punishable by death in the Dominion. As a result of this, the Tretallë gain an inherent advantage to saving throws against arcane magic.
Somber People The Tretallë place very little value or interest in debauchery, celebration, flattery, or anything of the sort. Even politics is settled by posturing and manoeuvring, not deception and manipulation. Because of this, the Tretallë possess an innate ability to shrug off seduction and even the most potent of arcane charms. They gain advantage to saving rolls against seduction and magical effects similar to charm.
Gender-Specific Stats
Gender roles are ingrained in Tretalleri society, the lines delineated between the genders the result of sexual dimorphism and many thousands of years of tradition. Whilst this is true, gender roles are not enforced judicially or socially. Tretalleri society is open to individuals that deviate from the norm, having long since recognized that it is better for a talented individual to be trained in what he/she is interested in rather than what he/she is not. Generally speaking, however, males and females are trained in separate disciplines.
Male
| Stat | Bonuses |
|---|---|
| Strength | 0 |
| Dexterity | +2 |
| Constitution | 0 |
| Intelligence | 0 |
| Wisdom | 0 |
| Charisma | 0 |
From an early age, most males are trained in the ways of the cavalry as a part of their mandatory education in both the martial and intellectual arts. As a result of this training, males generally end up with greater lower body strength and greater long-distance endurance than females. This training results in the following attributes generally associated with males:
- Advantage to attack rolls when mounted
- Run at 5x base movement speed instead of 4x
In addition, males are known to have notoriously low sex-drives. This is simply a biological fact of life, and while certainly there are outliers and exceptions, this means that generally, males also have the following attribute:
- Instead of having advantage to rolls against seduction, males are generally immune to seduction.
Female
| Stat | Bonuses |
|---|---|
| Strength | +2 |
| Dexterity | 0 |
| Constitution | +1 |
| Intelligence | 0 |
| Wisdom | 0 |
| Charisma | 0 |
Females, as opposed to the cavalry training that males receive, are trained in something much more vital to conquest: the art of the siege. As a direct result of this, females are generally stronger and have greater constitution than males of the species—this in addition to the fact that most women possess greater upper body strength than men.
- Advantage to attack rolls when wielding heavy weaponry
- Advantage to athletics rolls when involving upper body
