Description

Those unjustly kept from the embrace of death are an abomination unto the Stranger. Dead they might not be, but he wields power over them nonetheless. Using copious amounts of blood from your holy censer, you empower a length of chain. Make a ranged spell attack against a valid target. If you hit, your target must make a Constitution saving throw against your spellcasting DC. If your target succeeds the save, this spell deals 1d10 magical damage and does nothing further. If your target fails, there are three possible outcomes:

If your target is Undead, in exchange for reducing your own movement speed to 10 feet for the next two turns, you inflict Vermilion Shackle upon it and reduce its movement speed to 0.

If your target is Incorporeal but is not inflicted with Vermilion Shackle, you inflict Vermilion Shackle upon it and it loses any immunity or resistance to physical damage.

If your target is Incorporeal and is already inflicted with Vermilion Shackle, at the cost of reducing your own movement speed to 5 feet for the next two turns, you reduce its movement speed to 0.

For the next three turns, whatever effects are applied to the creature persist unless they make a Constitution saving throw against your spellcasting DC. They must make this save at the beginning of every turn. If they succeed, all effects of the spell immediately cease, and your target is cured of Vermilion Shackle.

At Higher Levels

When you cast this spell at 3rd level or higher, the maximum duration of this spell increases by 1 turn for every spell slot level higher than 2nd.
