Known in Dominean as the Imperial Bone Tree, it is a foreboding presence in the Throne Room at the Palace. It is gnarled and bare, and it stands in the shadows of the Ivory Throne that looms above it.

The Imperial Bone Tree is a marvel. It is a product, as scholars believe, of the magics of the Ivory Throne. For well over forty-thousand years, the tree has continued to grow despite having long since lost its ability to produce leaves, and the miniscule amounts of sunlight it surely received in the shadow of the Throne. Its gnarled branches are bare, seeming to be, on the best of days, bony fingers reaching in vain for the heights that the Ivory Throne could, downright skeletal on the worst.

Silent, stoic, and unnaturally still, it is known that the bones of every Pale Imperator that has ruled the Dominion are interred in the trunk of the tree. The Imperial Bone Tree is a silent sentinel, the guardian and witness to both the bloody and peaceful past of the Dominion. It is also a solemn reminder, for the Pale Imperator, stripped of home and family save in all but name, that the right to sit upon the Throne that looms over it is not only a glory and an honour, but also a burden and a sacrifice.
